Are the 8800's going to be DX10.1 compatible? And is it likely that Nvidia will bring out a G90 card mid 2007 that will def be DX10.1? What with the R600 supposedly hitting the market in January (20th?) I'm going to wait a month or so and see how they perform.
No probs grasshopper

Think i'll wait just that little bit longer. At the moment I have Rainbow six Vegas sitting waiting to be paid. I was stupid and expected my X800gto to be able to handle it (i failed to read the requirements at the back) - whoops.... I have a new psu and lian li A10B arriving in the next few days and the graphics card is gonna be the last piece of the puzzle.
I thought about an X1900/1950 but it seems a better idea to go for a DX10 card for the sake of £150 extra.
I would wait a little while too until the 8800 series has some competition as if ATi release something that competes or surpasses the 8800 cards then the price of the 8800GTX / GTS is likely to fall or indeed the ATi card may be the better option. Also changes in DX10 spec are likely, though this won't fundementally affect cards its likely that shader improvements will happen over DX10's life which will co-incide with revisions to the chipsets, much the same way as it did with DX9 which had 3 whole generations of nVidia cards devoted to it, the 5000, 6000 and 7000 series, each supporting Shader Model 1, 2 & 3 respectively.

Speaking of other DX10 cards... Just found this link via Google of a "test" of ATi's up and coming R600:
http://level505.com/2006/12/30/the-full-ati-r600-test
I'm not sure how reliable the info is but it looks like it'll be good competition for the 8800.
Looking forward to what Nvidia will offer in return
