    This or that

    Hi

I'm looking to buy a card, i have not played games in so long.

Basically I would like a card that can happily run BF2, Doom 3, Age of Empires III happily, at 1280x1024, but would appreciate the ability to play newer games as well. And most importantly, something that would last well into 2007, and no be out of fashion in a few months.

My PC is Celeron D 325 @ 3.1GHz and 1.5gb RAM. Still using AGP board. Also got a decent pair of Sennheiser HD 515 I would like to use! :d

So, 256Mb BFG Technology 7800GS, the 256MB XFX AGP GeForce 6800 GT or the 512MB Sapphire Radeon X1950Pro ? Which is recommended for this role and with my specs?

    Thanks a lot
    Steve

The X1950Pro should fit the bill quite nicely unless i'm mistaken. The only problem I see is that your processor will be the main bottleneck in the system.

i've got the sennies and love them

if you're sticking to AGP, then you're going to be unlikely to get a card that lasts well into 2007. with DX10 just around the corner, i'd consider upgrading to PCI-E instead of upgrading the graphics card. its a dud investment imo. Whats your budget?

Of those, the X1950Pro is a pretty clear choice IMO.

I have some friends with those cards. They're ok - better than the 6800 but not as good as the x1950pro.

They'll run the games you want, but you'll struggle to use full details on recent and 2007 titles.

Go for the x1950pro, and upgrade your mobo etc at the same time.
