I'd be inclined to go with the XT due to my recent dealings with gainward, its probally a supurb card, your just abit screwed if it goes wrong and want it RMA'd. (imo), the voucher for Half life 2 is a bonus.

    I would save a little more money & wait for a 5900+ or 9700+

I know in the US you can get a 5900 non ultra for the same price as 9600XT's & 5700U's so thats what I would get.

Remember, the GeForceFX cards suck at DirectX 9, which means they are going to suck on games such as Doom 3, Half-Life and other future releases.....

It is pretty even between the 9600XT and FX5700ultra. The 9600XT is certainly based on superior architecture but the FX5700ultra tends to nick it in raw 3D power. Both should o/c about the same. However there are also more options open to you...

If you're a gambler you could look to a 9800SE, the 256bitDDR versions with 380/340 type clocks offer you 9600XT speed with a slight chance of it modding into a true 9800PRO. If you can find them the 9700/9700PRO are top notch cards, way ahead of FX5700ultra and 9600XT ... heck they're basicly 9800 cards! 9500PRO is also another contender, stronger than the 9600XT because you get the full 9700 8piped processing power, great o/c'ers. The FX5900 is again well ahead of the FX5700ultra and 9600XT and may come in a similar price to 5700ultra as said. I'm not sure about the 5900LX, haven't heard anything concrete about it. 9600PRO also deserves a mention, they have loads of o/c'ing potential in them, 9600XT is little more than a 9600PRO with slightly o/c'ed core. If you want to bide your time for the new offerings around Feb then the GF4TI are still great cards, great o/c'ers with raw power at stock of the 9600PRO and FX5600ultra but of course GF4TI do lack DX9 and top AA+AF. There's plenty of options and no bad ones from the list either.

Half life 2 will run better on a radoen as they tended to use there technoligy when making it. Also when buying a radeon and websites like overclockers u get a free strange verion of HL2

Get a sapphire 9600xt mate. Superb performace, overclocks well, free copy of halflife2 (and a few other games inc half life 1 and opposing force over steam) and of course its cheap

WAIT, the 9600's, 5600's & 5700's are all the crippled little brothers of the real deals. They are only marginally faster than the 2 year old architecture of the GFti4200. (And sometimes the 4200 beats them!)

Yes, but the ti 4200 can't do DX9. You can already see the difference in games like HALO and Max Payne 2
I own a PC that changes regularly, so I don't bother putting anything in here...
