best PCI-E card for around £50

    hey guys

Am a newbie around here, and i was wondering what everyone thought would be the best fanless PCI-E card for around £50??

Im running a X1300pro in a shuttle ST20G5 at the moment so any improvement on that would be great (dont like the noise!)

    Third card down here:

    http://www.retekdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Video_Cards.html

Will cost about £60 delivered, but that's some decent bang for your buck. Much better than X1300

Click here for comparisons (look at the blue bars)...and the X1300 listed actually has faster memory than the one linked too above!

He said fanless. That's why I said the X1300.

woops lol.. I missed that too.

Looks like he's got the best he's gonna get for that kinda money and configuration.

£60 would get a X1600, and £28 for a passive Thermalright GPU cooler.

Wow that was fast replies guys cheers! quite glad i joined here

X1600 sounds good, but i do need a passive cooled one. The thing with these shuttle cases is that any fan on a gfx card whatsoever may be quiet but because its so close to the case wall the noise gets magnified; this also means most passively cooled solutions dont fit.

My last shuttle i fitted one of those huge copper zalman flowers on the side - did the job but needed heavy modification and a huge hole in the side of my case so passive is defo the way to go!

It's up to yourself really, I'm not big on nVidia myself, maybe the 7600GS is decent.

There was a review of fanless graphics card here on Anandtech a few months ago.

You don't say what games (if any) you play, so difficult to know where to pitch. If you simply don't play games, then a passive 1300 card would be easiest as you already have the drivers installed, and should have low heat output.

You seem to be able to get 7600GS cards (and hence 7300GT which are basically the same) with quite low profile heatsinks, so I guess they don't warm up much.

the 7600GS sounds like a good bet cheers

This is the cheapest ive found a fanless version so far: gryphonit.securewebstore.co.uk/INU_products/INU_ProdDetailsL2.ASP?ref=M7292195

and according to tomshardware's charts i should see a big increase in frame rates from my X1300pro
    tomshardware.co.uk/graphics/charts.html

But wont it suffer from the lower clock speeds it has??? i dont play that many games but when i do theyre things like unreal tournament, grand theft auto and halo

naw, lower frequency on a more efficent architecture still can provide better performance, just look at Intels move from Netburst (P4/PD) to Core architecture.

Can you post details and a quick review of the card you eventually bought as the posted link no longer works. I have the same shuttle system and am looking to add an inexpensive card to replace the integrated graphics.

    Thanks.
