new graphics card, opinions wanted

Hello,

I currently have a 256Mb Connect 3D ATI PCI-E X800GTO.

but was looking to upgrade to either of these (don't wanna spend too much).

I see the first has a giher clock but with 12 pipes, latter has lower clock speed but with 24 pipes.

Is the £20 extra worth it or do you have any other suggestions? No real alliance to Nvidia or ATI.

Would a 512Mb card be much better than a 256Mb?


Basically - I want to be able to paly R6: Vegas!

My stystem is in my signature - and I have an AMD 64 X2 3800 on the way.

X1950Pro>7800GT>7600GT, I think.

The Pro is worth the extra money but if you can't afford it then the other two are nice

One thing I wasn't sure on was whether an X1950Pro was better than a 7800GT.

I presume the X1950XT is better than all of the above.

It depends, texture heavy games would benefit the extra memory of the pro. Shader heavy games would benefit from the extra pipes of the XT.

yes 1950xt is quite a bit better than a 1950 pro and worth the extra £30 you would be gaming for quite a while on that at least until dx10 goes mainstream gaming which will be a good year to year and a half

For the extra £10 that the Sapphire x1950PRO (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=481911) costs, it'll net you quite a bit of performance on that 7800GT.

On Tom's Hardware's VGA Charts (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/graphics/charts.html) the X1950PRO destroys the 7800GT in every benchmark.

I also didn't know they were still selling 7800GT's in many places. I would wonder whether it was truly available. The only 7800's you commonly see at the moment are AGP 7800GS's. The 7900GS (e.g. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=499273 ) are good value and outperform the 7600GT's, but from what I've seen if you can stretch to an X1950 Pro its worth it.

I think you're right, got the extra mile and get a 1950PRO. It's my birthday soon so I'll wait til I get some money then.
