    ATI's next cards

Seen all the the New Direct x10 type Nvidia cards, but as im a ATI fanboy is there much news on the upcoming ati cards i haven't seen alot about them.

I have the x1950pro to tide me over but the wifes machine needs a new graphic card soon (she inherits all my old gear )and im wondering how long it will be until we see some cool new ATI full DX10 cards on the horizon can not seem to see any news or previews out there.

I havent seen any proper news on the new ATI cards except they are coming out early this year.

In your "My System" what do you mean by (fan adjusted) on the x1950pro? Have you changed it or ?

It seems the AMD merger has hurt ATi in a lot of ways, especially with PR and R&D.

I just hope they don't go the 3Dfx route

There are rumours around - especially from the exquirer. From what i've read it looks to be a March release. The R600 will be better than the 8800gtx but by how much i'm not sure.

Yeah, there's a little rumour creeping out there, but I doubt any of it will really stand up. It sounds like ATi have been stung by both the merger and perhaps taken aback by what nV have done with the 8800GTX.

My guess is they're just hanging back to make sure they put out something good. They did it with the X1900XTs, so there's little to suggest they can't do it again.

No doubt at all that the card to get at the moment is an 8800, but if you don't need to upgrade for a couple of months, then hanging back will certainly be a wise move - if nothing else, nV will have their refresher cards out, and that too will force down the prices of the 8800s.

I'd guess early to mid April.

As you say rumours abound... I have seen one report that an enginerring sample was not as fast as and 8800GTX, and it consumed vast amounts electrical of power. It is pure speculation as yet to say it will be better thatn 8800gtx because we simply don't know, we only hope.

This is the latest news item I've seen about the new ati card.

    http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=36673

Since it's from the inquirer, it's not exactly reliable news.

I have the original Sapphire x1950pro which has the overheating issues (black screen power off problem) so for work around I use ATI tool fan speed adjustments to keep it from crashing. I might try and mod it fully soon with a new fan etc.

Hope the newATI cards do come out soon or i may have to defect to Nvidia

Cheers for the updates guys - i will keep a eye on the inquirer

Heh, used to really believe everything I read there, but recently they've been very fanboy-esque about something so not exactly impartial IMO anymore.

http://level505.com/ is talking a lot of rubbish imo. It's either been done by ATI itself or fanboys. There's no pictures or nothing and a lot of praise for ATI. Also a lot of talk of how you will shoot yourself later on if you buy an 8800 now.
