    Question Hercules 9800SE AIW Problem

Well, here we go, my first post....bound to be a dumb one!

Just bought a Hercules 9800SE Radeon AIW card and all installed quite happily. However, something is confusing me.

If I use an S-Video lead from my VHS to the break-out box the picture appears on my monitor fine. However, an S-Video lead from the back of my DVD player only gives a black & white picture. The S-Video lead is connected to the DVD through one of those SCART socket adapters with composite and S-Video outputs.

I do a reasonable amount of work that requires access to the CD drive so I can't run the DVD in the PC itself. Any suggestions as to why the picture is in black and white via S-Video?

    TIA

P.S. Apologies if this is something I've missed in the instructions but I am stricken with the dreaded flu and feeling all miserable

i have no idea - ALL my graphics cards seem to do b&w tvout and frankly, it really annoys me when i come to want to watch a film

i THINK the problem is the connection, most svids have 6 pins on like a ps2 mouse, however my mates that works has a load more, like 9 or 10 pins - i think the problems lie in the cable not the card as i have the same problem, but i cant seem to find any decent cables

IIRC, there are a couple of s-video settings, one of which results in a b&w picture, it also could be a symptom of macrovision from the dvd player..

Hi mate, this wont help the situation, but have you tried softmodding it to a 9800?

I have a digital camera, which i can use as a webcam, but the video in, is always black and white, an di too have it on PAL, and i have tried everything, and its always black and white. Im sure there must be some way to make it color, its just not known to man.

As far as the S-Video lead I ditched the one supplied with the card as that seemed to be missing a few pins and used a gold-plated all pins present one that is working.

What makes this all the more baffling is that when I used the same lead and connections into my trusty old Hauppage WinTV card there were no problems.

you have the tv set to read composite video. Make sure it is set to svideo. S video has two outputs, luminescence and colour. When you set it to composite it only reads the luminescence channel, hence you only get b&w
I own a PC that changes regularly, so I don't bother putting anything in here...
