8x AGP

Anyone else come across this :

If I have 8x AGP enabled in the Smartgart part of the ATI drivers as soon as I try running any games at all the system just hangs.

Spec :

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton (333 FSB)
512 Crucial Ram (333 Mhz)
Connect3D Radeon 9600 Pro (Catalyst Build 3.10)
Soltek 75FRV Motherboard - Purple Ray (Fully supports 8x AGP & latest Bios)
450 Watt PSU

Its been ongoing and I just cant work out why its doing it. I have tried adjusting the voltage to the AGP from 1.5 (Standard) upto 1.7 and tried allsorts with the memory timings and voltage but it just keeps doing it for some unknown reason, it should be working fine. So I have to knock it down to 4x to get system stability with the games.

I have read that sometimes it can be compatibility with the card and memory, but looking at what I have got should be working fine.

Any ideas at all ?

Just use 4x then Doubt you'll even notice the difference.....

8x has been buggy on a few boards for ages as Ethos said just force 4x or bump the VAGP votage up to 1.7/1.8 to fix the problem
