X1950Pro / X1950XT / DX10

So my GTO² is showing it's age now and is going to a good new home (my parents' computer). So the big question:

- Which card do I go for?

I've had my eye on the £165 256MB X1950XT from Scan but then with DX10 around the corner do I want to save money and go with something cheaper like an X1950Pro? Also, should I really be looking for a 512MB card?

512mb won't be taken advantage of.

It's a tough one to call - if you're looking to go dx10 sooner rather than later, then yep - I'd get the cheaper pro.

If you're going to hang on as long as possible, the xt will last you longer.

Well really I'm only gonna be looking at DX10 when it starts really affecting games, and as I'm only *just* finding not having SM3 to be a problem, I could see it being a while until I need a DX10 card... hopefully...

You could always get the pro and overclock it:

just gains sufficient performance for now for a lower price with the intention to upgrade when the prices drop. An overclocked pro would do most games for the next year maybe quite happily.

Damn I just dunno.

I'll be getting £90 for my old graphics card and CPU so that's money towards it, but then I know I'll be fitting my VF900 to whatever I get, so that means buying those rip off Zalman memory heatsinks too...

If you can afford it the 8800GTS will see you fine for a long time otherwise X1950XT would be my pick.

I'd love a GTS but I don't have a large enough display to justify splashing the cash... I'm looking for a new one but I think it'll only be 20" widescreen tops.

An X1950XT it is.
