Which 9600XT?

Hi bit of help here picking an radeon 9600XT?

ok fair as i can make out all powercolor, sapphire and hercules have 128mb cards that do 500mhz core and 650mhz memory

this is better then the reference card, the asus card and the connect 3d card.

the powercolor one above has 2.86ns ram which should do 700mhz i think.

however there is a powercolor bravo version with 2.5ns ram which should do 800mhz if i calculate correct so this would be the card to go for out of all these would you agree?


now what about a 128mb card versus a 256mb one. i can't find any info on the memory on 256mb cards is this because its crap?

also a 256mb card must still have at least 600mhz memory to be a radeon 9600XT.

-so what would be better a 256mb card with 600mhz ram
or a 128mb card with 650mhz ram

-or the 256mb card with 600mhz ram compared to the powercolor with the 2.5ns ram?

not to be rude but there are a few threads on this already... they are all fairly the same just go with which ever one is cheaper... or use google, google is your friend = )

don't worry your not being rude. i've been googling a lot of the evening theres no review for a number of these cards, typically just a review for the generic ati reference, its hard to get specifics especially when the manufacturers don't even supply them

Dataisgod, I'd suggest that maths does not equate to overclocking potential, i'm fairly certain that powercolour get all of their kit made by ati, so its going to be fairly generic, if you really want to push the overclocking side of the card go with the Hercules, they are the best card (and most expensive) for overclocking, as they tweak the reference design.

Other than this you might want to considure the 9800 SE AIW and try and soft mod this to a 9800 Pro AIW.

Worth a try otherwise still bang on performance with 9600 XT

yeah both the sapphire and hercules must use at least 2.86ns ram as their card runs at 650mhz

if the powercolor one though has rated 2.5ns ram its hard to go wrong with that

anywho it turns out theres a new kid on the street

the 5900 XT/SE/LX running at 400/700 it walks all over the 9600XT

that might be a good choice too i both cards are very good. they do some things better then the other so if you can get that for a good price jump on it

i would say that u really cant go wrong with a sphire card even though u can pick up a 9800se for nearly the same kind of price as a 9600xt!

I just picked up a 9600XT for £125, was one of the best upgrades for the least money ive ever had
