I've been looking at getting an x1950 pro for a while now (it takes me a while to take the plunge) and have just noticed that they have a six-pin power socket. Now, my Akasa PaxPower only has an 8 or 4 pin plug of that sort - do you get an adapter in the GFX card box, or do I need to upgrade my PSU?

You should get an adaptor in the box, just make sure you plug each molex into a different 12v rail on the PSU. Most recent PSU's should have a 6-pin PCI-E connector though.

Yeh you get a PCI-E to 2 Molex in the box aswell, if yours is missing i can post you mine down.
*nods* If it's the ultimate you'll get an adaptor. If it's the cheap 'lite' retail pack from sapphire and non-ultimate, you probably won't.
be careful not all brands come with this adaptor, my HIS x1950 IceQ didnt come with one.
Ah, right. I was actually considering an HIS one. It was between that and the Sapphire Ultimate...
Right then, I had a feeling my PSU would be too weak for an AM2 setup anyway....

Well i've just sold my x1950pro, it just wasnt stable enough in CS:S im sure once they fix the drivers it will be a better card.
But atm it just wasnt the right card for me, i got better FPS with my AGP x800xt pe

I did the power calculator thing, and it appears that an AM2 setup would actually require less power than my current 939 setup. Looks like i'll be better off just going for the adaptor...
Which pleases me...
The only other concern is that buying now may make me miss the price drops from when ATI's DX10 card comes out...
OK, next quandary:
The Sapphire 512mb 1950Pro is on Today only for the weekend at £135, the same price as the HIS 256Mb Turbo.
Does the extra memory make up for the overclocking?
Like with most computing compromises, it depends on what your running :)
Most things, the faster card will be better, although if you play anything with large texture requirements, the addition memory could be handy.
