Video won't play at all, only audio..

I can't get video to play on my system since it Xp was re-installed. I have DivX player, WM player 10 and Xvid and the relevant codecs but only audio will play when I try and play an .avi or dvd. When I try and capture vidoe from for Samsung digital vidoe camera it won't show in the preview box and won't play back, but if I click on my video camera through MY COMPUTER, it will play what is on the tape in a small screen. Any ideas cos I am really stuck?

I'm having trouble with that - I've downloaded the driver but when i try to install it it stops half way through and says "Setup was unable to complete installation. Try to set up your display adapter with a standard vga and try again." Does that mean to lower the resolution cos I've got it set at 1680x1050?

Finally got it working, reinstalled driver but made no difference. I've turned hardware acceleration off and it works. Any ideas why - i don't want to have to keep turning hardware acceleration off to play video...

    your off-screen drawing is broken

it's a driver issue - almost always a graphics driver issue, but sometimes motherboard chipset too

Thanks - I've downloaded and installed the latest driver (after first uninstalling the other one) but no luck. Wired2Fire - where it is unbder warranty from - say it is probably a settings/issue but it will have to go back to them to check and if it is a driver/settings issue and not a hardware one I'll have to pay the carriage!!
