    Question Ram....

I bet you guys love me here at the help section with all my questions.....

I currently have only 1Gb of my ram installed (other stick RMA'd) and im wondering why so much of it is being used up for doing nothing...On my G15, i see 40% of my ram being used when im doing absolutley NOTHING. booted into windows, nothing open in the taskbar, checked Task Manager, only essential stuff running, ran MSCONFIG and checked what runs when PC first boots up, and all is reduced to essentials, and its still 40%...

My old machine had 256MB DDR ram, and it ran XP fine (but i dont know about percentage ram used, because i got the keyboard when i bought the bits for my PC)

what's under the memory usgae in task manager? order it and then add up how much is in use, should be pretty near the RAM used.

Just wondering what u r trying to get out of this post. It would appear, and sorry if Im wrong, that u r effectively running at idle so having spare mem is a good thing. I run 2GB which most of the time isnt really used to its full, however when I play BF2 my mem usage will easily 1.5GB, so any less and my system would have been swapping to disk which has a big impact on performance, just a thought

what im wondering is where the memory is going... i was running the exact same version of windows with 256MB ram.
40% of 1gig is more than 400 megabytes, ~150 megabytes than the amount of ram i used to have

ah, I see where ur coming from. windows is pretty dynamic with its memory management, it will use a certain amount of physical memory as well as paging to disk, the combination of the two will be total memory usage. It may simply be that it has paged less due to better availability of physical memory. What value is the G15 picking up as there are several values which all account for different uses, physical, total, kernal, paged, etc etc
