Sorta very loud energising noise from monitor?

Well I bought a vision master pro 510 off ebay had a demo and was pleased, bought it home and connected it with a BNC lead and I must have got the colours wrong as it didn't work, corrected this mistake. Now I don't know whether I have upset something but on bootup when receiving a signal there is a very loud energising noise (not a crack like a s/c).............. if the computer is off and I switch monitor off/on there is no noise.

The monitor dislays perfectly and there is no noise from a soft boot (only initial cold boot). And I haven't changed the graphic card (very old matrox mystique).
Any thoughts/answers or do I just have to live with it?

Could be the HT transformer is dying - i've had similar noises with preceeded monitor death.. hope not m8!

Wouldn't you get the same noise if it wasn't connected to a computer? Come to think of it my TV make a similar noise but much quieter.

Possibly - or the monitor is going to some really odd mode during bootup (outside scan range for example).. I did have one monitor here which made a nice fizzing sound when the pc booted and this eventually was accompanied by a burning smell and smoke

No idea but the vibration is shown on the display for a second or two, and I don't think it's an added feature when bought new, to happen on a cold boot.
It's an excellent monitor for £28 and can't fault it on display test programs and goes to 2048X1526 at 80hz......if it stops working, it stops working and down the council dump it goes.
Just thought I've got it on 1028X768 at 85 hz...... default factory setting for that is 160hz maybe this is the problem, can't check in win2k cos the monitor is not listed, but will boot into vista or winxp.

BTW anyone want to test the display on their monitor, on iiyama web site there is a free download.

like mentioned before degausing has a similar sound and will give u the effect on the monitor that u r seeing, although most CRTs I saw this on didnt do it every time I switched it on, only when selected from the OSD

my sony degausses after every power on when comp is on, however it wouldnt if my comp was off as it goes strait into standby.

there should be the option to degauss on the OSD, use it and see if it does the same thing as what your experiencing?

My Taxan goes "bumfph" on reboot/power on and the screen flickers for about 4-5 secs and this is the degauss kicking in automatically.

That's good news as this monitor is the same i.e Leave monitor on and I can change hard drives reboot and no noise....but switch off monitor then on and the first second it receives a signal from computer I get the loud noise and the display on the screen wobbles if I have already booted.

Only 3 screen menu buttons and on/off switch.

Sounds like an automatic degauss to me, especially if there's no explicit degauss on the menu.

Do you know what makes this noise, as surely it doesn't do the monitor/tv any good over the years?

Another thing with the pro 510 is that vista/xp/2k doesn't seem to know much about it, it recognised the name and plug and play but you can't get a refresh rate over 85hz on xp/2k and vista doesn't give you any options even as administrator
Go to iiyama and it's not listed for latest driver for windows or instruction book.

ermmm It cost about £800 when it first came out about 6 years ago, got great reviews and nobody cares.

well I don't mind if it's normal for it to do this everytime, but it's so loud and needs a silencer........and that's with my hearing aid out.
My son hasn't used this monitor yet, I will say nothing and it will be interesting if he says anything.

Do you know what makes this noise

It's the high current surge from the degaussing coils that makes the noise not any moving parts and should not be worried about really.

Thanks all, the monitor is made this way i.e. a loud noise as mentioned in a review on dooyoo:-

"When you switch on the monitor, or you degauss, you will know about it, its load (sp)".
