As long as you've got a legit license, you can use any installation media to install it - even if it is obtained from p2p.

That is ONLY true if you've got a license sticker, and haven't broken any terms of the agreement.

you just need a CD with the xp install files on it, i have a copied CD with the XP installation files on it from when we re installed XP on one of our old machines after the motherboard broke.

Yeah, a legit key is what the cost of the OS really is, AFAIK - you pay for the license to run it, repesented as the Product Key, I personally dont see an issue with obtaining an XP CD and reinstall using your key.

Kidzer basically spelled out what I meant, you can use someone elses copy of the disc, or obtain one from Bittorrent etc, as long as you use it with the code from the license sticker

In a word no as the licences are tied to the whatever version they are issued with.

Ok got the CD.s and during the installation, well beore that, just after it goes through setting up process i get this error message:

    driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

not sure what it means but im guessing something to do with drivers.

Anyway then the system turns itself off. i try turining on again and then it doesnt do anything and turn off. i guesed this may be a temprature problem so wait a while for it too cool and then restart and go into bois for temps and im getting 70c+ temps which are really high and the damn fan doesnt want to spin even though it is plugged into the slot on the mobo for it.

so now i got two new problems.

    any ideas
