    Asus crash-free BIOS

    Hi,

Looking at building an AMD Athlon 64 3800+EE on to a mATX board. The Asus M2NPV-VM seems OK - the graphics should do for a 19" monitor.

    There's one point that I don't understand:

'Note: CrashFree BIOS2 and EZ Flash 2 only support VGA/RGB output, but does not support VGA/DVI-D output.'

Can any one explain (in simple terms) what this means, please? Is it detrimental?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

It means that u will have the analogue (blue) monitor connection which is okay for 90% of monitors. The DVI is a digital connection (white) which gives you improved clarity/colour etc on some LCD panels which have the correct connector

This board has DVI-D, actually, which is why I'm interested.
No, it's the, to me, worrying bit about the Crash-free and Flashing not supporting the DVI.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

sorry fella, my take on that is if u ever have to use those two features u need a monitor connected over RGB rather than DVI which while it sounds odd surely u can just plug a DVI-RGB adapter onto the DVI connector

I think it means the BIOS upgrader/reflasher doesn't support DVI output, so if you want to flash it you'll need to view the options via the good ol' VGA port.

Ah, thank you! So all I'd need to do is swap the monitor to the other port. Must make sure that the monitor has the input.

BTW, the Asus boards with the 690G chipset don't say anything about this, so are possibly OK on DVI.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
