    E6400 temps

    ive just purchased and installed a core 2 duo e6400 but need to no what the temperatures are for this processor, when 1st installing the processor i checked the temp in the bios and it said 31 degrees but once i had the pc on for an hour or so i checked again and it went up to around 40 degrees is this to hot or is it fine?

    they arent amazing but prefectly acceptable.. 70 degrees is where you want to worry lol.

    I wouldn't trust the bios for temperatures though.

    Use a program called TAT

    thermal throttling kicks in around 65-70 degs, where you're PC will just switch itself off because the CPU is too hot, it shouldn't do any lasting damage, but 40 degrees under load is fine

    ive just downloaded tat and ran it the temperatures on both cpu 0 and 1 are 50-55 degrees is this abit high?

    the intel one that come with the processor, are the temps abit high?

    is a little high even for the stock cooler.

    Have you considered a different cooler...Arctic Freezer perhaps?

    Could also make sure its seated properly...possibly use some artic 5 on it instead of the stock compound.

    Stock cooler should keep it around 44 or less under load. You don't need a different cooler with the core 2 duo unless you're overclocking or want something even quieter.. I'd suggest it's not quite seated right, or airflow to it isn't so good.

    That said, the bios readings seem ok.

    i go by TAT.. bios is always low. but then it will shut down by the bios temps so go with them if you like the sound of them better lol

    Well what's TAT getting it's reading from if not the sensor that the BIOS is reading?

    I dunno but I get vastly differing results depending on what i look at eg my E6600 on idle:

    ASUS Probe II: 19C
    BIOS: 20C

    IMHO, if Bios is reporting only 40c after being on for a while, it's 100% fine and no need to worry.
