    Question Home Network problem

Windows xp seems to require that the 2 windows xp PCs I want to network both need a floppy drive to be able to create and use a network floppy disk (only one of the PCs has a floppy). Is there any way round this?

if you want to share the internet get a modem router, by far the easiest and most reliable method of sharing

You need a crossover cat 5(e) cable and make sure the pcs dont have the same IP address. On the PC with the internet connection you need to select both network cards (in network connections) and click 'Bridge'. Also you need to network cards in the internet pc and one in the other.

I have the correct cable as it was successful in networking 2 different PC's a while back. Both PC's I'm trying to network have network cards.

However I dont know how to check or change the IP address, if that is an issue.

The master PC (with one the internet connection) does not see the other PC and so I've not had the chance to try to select "bridge".

If I cant get it working tonight I'll have to start copying files accross via CD.

Do you mean you are disconnecting from the Internet and connecting the two pcs?

IF you are, on the internet PC set the IP address to:

    192.168.1.1

and is the subnet mask didnt change, make it: 255.255.255.0

you get to the above part when you select properties on your network card and its under TCP/IP

forget the other settings, unless windows needs them these days...

On the other PC just allow the network card to find its own address.
