    Quick question

I have no problem, I'm just curious about something.

I have my main spinpoint (sata) partitioned into 2. I also have a baraccuda in an icy box attached via USB2.

Sata has a data rate of 1.5gbit/s or 3gbit/s (not sure which I have, but assume 3gbit/s)

USB2 has a data rate of up to 480mbit/s

So my question is, why do files copy faster from my spinpoint to the baraccuda than to the other partition on the same drive?

copying the files to the external hard drive involves the motor constantly outputing data, which is fed directly to the external.
copying the files to the other partition, the motors doing twice the work, as it has to go back and forward reading and writing the data to the other partition. Thats my take on it, dont know if im talking mince

lol maybe you are, but it sounds like a feasible explanation to me!

Yep - that's pretty much it. The 1.5Gb/s & 3Gb/s are bus bandwidths that you'll never even dream of acheiving - biggest limiting factor is the 7200 rpm motor speed.
