    HDCP???

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a new system and I have come across HDCP.
The graphics card i was going to choose (786MB XFX 8800GTX) supports hdcp and the monitor does too (24" Samsung SM-245B).
However, the motherboard (Asus Striker Extreme) doesnt seem to support this feature.
Does this mean that i will not be able to use hdcp or does it mean that the on board graphics of the mobo (doesnt have onboard graphics) does not have hdcp?
    Thanks for your help

    Re: HDCP???

For a secure chain, the following needs to be HDCP aware:

Playback software -> OS -> Graphics output -> display

So no, the motherboard doesn't need to be HDCP aware. If it has onboard graphics and you are using that, then yes it does.

At the moment none of the HD-DVD or BluRay titles have implimented the "feature" that restricts output to non-HCDP secure chains. But if you are getting new hardware now you are definitely best making sure it is compatible for the future, just in case the studios suddenly decide to impliment the features they forced the HD formats to adopt

    Re: HDCP???

Vista is HDCP aware. PowerDVD 7 and WinDVD both support HD materials and the two HS disks. Apparently they are both really buggy bits of software.

They are, but PDVD is the better option.
