    Compact Flash I or II?

I've got a FujiFilm S9500, which takes XD and Compact Flash memory cards. As XD seems to be ridiculously expensive (1 or 2GB), i'm going to get CF.

Is there a significant difference between I and II? My camera says it takes CF II, does this mean its back-compatible with I, or does that mean it only takes II.

A quick look at the manual doesn't seem to reveal anything..

    Help?

    Thanks.

Apparently CF I is compatible.. so that's ok

Not much on what the difference is apart from the pins and that CFII is about a tenner more than CFI..

the differences? its mainly lack of differences.

The only difference between CF Type I and CF Type II cards is the card thickness.
have a quick read of http://www.compactflash.org/faqs/faq.htm#What_is

    Ta mate

Interesting to note that it's possible to have capacities of up to 137GB!

CFII was mainly for the old IBM Microdrives that needed the extra 1mm or so to house the tiny hard drive heads and platters. I don't actually think they are used that much these days.

I think it is likely that the 137GB limit could be removed at som point as well. As CF memory cards are basicaly just ATA drives, they have the same 32bit address limit that IDE has a few years ago. This was increased to 48bit. I'm pretty sure CF slots could have this extended as well.

It is a much better standard than any of the other cards formats with regards to flexability

It's not a tenner though, cos if you want more than one, you get buggered on the postage. ie, 4.50 PER card, which is daylight robbery for a first class stamp.

I wanted a couple, so that'd be 9 quid on postage which i'm not prepared to pay.

If your camera takes both then you are definitely better off financally getting a CF card.
