Computer problems, any ideas?

Hey guys!


I lost the network last night, but couldnt solve it by reseting the router or the gateways.

So after this i tryed to restart the computer a couple of times. Using the ON/OFF button outside on the computer. But on the second try, it wouldnt start again.

First i tought it was the PSU (electricity box), because when i turned the power ON, some of the Fan's started to run, but Extremely sloow. And some of the lights inside started to turn on and off. And they were "dimmed" down. It's like when something doesent get enough power. So i tought that the PSU where broken, got a new one. And tryed again. But NOPE, it wouldnt start.

And it's ONLY some of the Fan's and lights that start to run Very slowly. The HDD or CPU or anything doesent respawn at all. Not even a sound^^

So what could it be?
Could it be the Motherboard?

On my motherboard there is a little Lamp, that turns RED if something is wrong, but when i put the power on, it lights Green. So i really dont know what todo.

Maybe it could be the CPU?

I've tryed everything now, reseting the CMOS Bios, tested different RAM (memory) but it still wont start.

So if anyone got any ideas, i would be glad


The parts i am using:

- Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
- AMD Athlon +3700
- 2GB Memory (RAM)
- 550W Power suply
- ATI Radeon X850XT

You need to troubleshoot every possible part, so start by disconnecting/removing everything (including all USB devices) except CPU, Graphics card and one stick of RAM and switch on. IF it boots ok, replace everything one by one until you find out which part is causing the problem. If it still doesn't boot properly, remove the RAM and graphics card too. If you're only left with the CPU and motherboard, then it's almost definitely the mobo that's faulty.

Yup, but allrdy done that

Removed everything, only got the CPU, Motherboard and PSU left. but nope, it still wouldnt start.

It could be the motherboard, but the little lamp is turning green when i put the power on. But nothing else happen.

Got 4x RAM, took them out and tryed eatch one of the them, but wasnt that eather.


So i dont know what todo

may be worh removing the cpu and reseating it. You could also try removing the motherboard *****just in case***** a screw or other small metal object has managed to get under the motherboard and is causing a short.

hmm, now i got a new PSU that works. Tryed to jump start it, and the PSU started, so nothing wrong with the new one.

But when i plug it to the motherboard, it wont start. But the lamp is turned ON and green.

So could it be that i got 1 Broken PSU and 1 broken Motherboard?

Anyone else got some toughts?

Tryed to take out all of the parts and clean them, but didnt help.

Have you tried removing the motherboard from case and sitting it on a towel or cardboard and installing only CPU, 1 RAM stick and Graphics card - connect up PSU and see if it POSTs. If it does, work up from there, if not remove Graphics card and try again.... if it won't POST then it must either be CPU or MB - most likely motherboard........

Yeah, already done that

Taken out all the parts, had it on a tabel. Only Motherboard, CPU and NO respons.

And i've jump started the PSU, so nothing wrong with that one. So it must be the Motherboard or CPU, just dunno witch one of them :/

Motherboards are far more likely to fail than CPUs (barring badly overclocked or extremely poorly cooled CPUs of course), so unfortunately it's almost certainly the mobo that needs replacing.

Obviously if you have access to a compatible CPU, try that first. Otherwise it's best to replace the motherboard with the same model, so that you won't need to mess around reinstalling or doing a repair install of the OS.

Yeah, the computer is fixed

Changed the PSU and Motherboard!
