im fairly new on building computers after a few times installing new parts im thinking about going for a new build but was wondering how would i be able to tell if the motherboard will fit inside the case? also what does form factor Micro-ATX Size mean? thanks for the help in advance

Micro-ATX are similar to ATX however they are cut down to fit into Micro-ATX cases. They do still fit into ATX.

Micro-ATX have less expansion slots due to their smaller size however this also makes them idea for Media Centre Pcs which need to be small to fit in with the rest of the entertainment system.
What motherboard do you have in mind and which case are you considering installing it in?

well im seen a motherboard in my local pc shop for £30 nothing special just want it to learn with and plus already got a few spare bits like ram and graphics card. so does the micro-atx fit into any case?
not necessarily any case but on the most part yes. Iv only ever experienced ATX and Micro-ATX but i think dell sometimes use something called BTX.
I wouldnt go to the local computer shop regardless of price. I would say scan, microdirect, ebuyer or (if its something a little out of date) ebay
i trust the local pc shop brought quite a few things from there every thing perfect even repaired my pc when my motherboard went resonable prices aswell.

should them 2 be fine together i no they aint the best spec but just some thing to learn with and the motherboard goes with some parts i already have spare
yeah actually that looks like a good idea if ur just learning. when u said local shop i thought it was gunna be one of these places that tell you everythings blown and then turn to show you the new range of pcs when the only real problem was a pin is bent on the monitor cable or something
lol no this shop is pretty decent dont rip u off or any thing like that. so will the motherboard and case i shown fit together?

Seeing as you sound like you aren't sure what you are doing...
Something you need to be in mind of when handling computers is ESD (electrostatic discharge). In other words it is easy to fry a component with your bodys own natural electric current
Always handle your items with care normally touching the edges of the components only, if you aren't using the component pack it away/rest it on it's antistatic bag or leave it in its own special protective shield etc.
An anti-static wristband is always reccomended for newbies, they are very cheap and offer piece of mind. Regardless of whether you decide to use one or not always charge yourself down before you touch components via touching an unpainted surface of your case i.e the inside and not the outisde bit.
Maybe went overboard but this is the most important thing to be thinking about when building a PC. The last thing you want to do when you've bought all those expensive components is to kill them and then spend the rest of the day trying to figure out why your PC doesn't work
thanks for the advice but ive already got an anti-static wrist band but to be honest dont no where to clip it to, ive seen people clip it onto the back of the pc but aint entirely sure
I just clip it to the chasis of the case on the inside
Alternatively, clip it to an unpainted bit of a radiator.
hello ive just been out and brought the motherboard and case, the case has got screw fittings for the micro atx motherboard but the only problem is the vga, sound, keyboard and mouse etc slot doesnt go with the ones in the case if you get what i mean. there is another metal peice with the correct hole fittings but that came with the motherboard any one no what i need to do? also do i just screw the motherboard into the wholes on the case as there is a metal plate kinda within the case with the correct wholes
is it ok to attach the clip on the anti-static wrist band onto the casing where the cd drive goes?

yeah u can clip it there fine.
when putting the motherboard in you need to put the small raisers into the relevant holes on the metal plate then the motherboard on that. try to put a washer inbetween the motherboard and the screw (the case should have come with some small paper ones)
you should be able to push out the i/o plate on the case and then replace it with the one for the mobo. Give us some pics if u are unsure
the i/o plate on the case is attached by a little metal fitting on each side so all i do is push that out and attach the one that came with the motherboard. i dont no what you mean by the small raisers, do you mean the ones on the i/o plate?
update- ive juyst tired pushing the i/o plate out on the case doesnt seem to want to budge how could i get it out without damaging the case also there isnt no papers washers in the screw bag that come with the case, but there is a seperate peice of metal that lays kinda on top of the case that the screws go into might this be why there isnt any washers?

can you possibly post us some pictures because im a little confused.
the raisers are meant for the underside of the motherboard to lift the motherboard from the plate of the case. the case might have another method but i cudnt say without seeing
the i/o plate has to come out some how guess will need pics to help.
the washers are not vital but i would maybe go to the shop and get a bag of mixed screws or something
