its easy to play the numbers game like alot of the people on this forum who in all honesty dont need the systems they have but you have just learnt the hard way.

To be fair if your game is css then one of those 8800 gts will be overkill, but will also allow you to play new games at max for ages to without raping your wallet

I still think it's drivers have you only tried one set of drivers?

You're not trying to run something stupid like 16xaa super sampling with every game are you?

Have you installed the amd dual core patch?

depends what game it is and what level

Some CS: S maps are a lot LOT more demanding than others, you will probably only be getting 40fps on a map like de_militia with 16xaa SS. Also depends how many people are on the map, if it's like 20 then it will fly but if you are on one of the crazy 40 player servers your fps will nose dive.

another game, oblivion would bring it too its knees with 16xaa SS

mate i really dont think a game like cs:s in any state could bring a 8800 gtx down the card is sooo powerfull and is desinged to play games much higher speced than cs:s on a 30 inch screen at max..

hey, yeah i uninstalled the amd patch, still no luck, ive fiddled with the settings from max to lowest, its werid though it runs more or lessthe same fps in max settings at lower settings. Ive only used the latest driver. do you suggest i use a older driver? Im trying to get at LEAST 200 fps average as i was told i could get on my rig, right now in gameplay im gettin 90/100 fps average.

Theres nothing wrong with getting 100fps average in cs: s

Don't worry about getting 200 fps

It might sound crazy but CS: S is extremely CPU dependent e.g.

    amd 64 3000+ 2ghz stock oc'd @ 2.3ghz = 40fps on the bigger maps like compound, put a core 2 duo in there and suddenly it's at 80fps

The difference won't be that drastic for you and your X2 but you get the picture.

If a game runs basically the same no matter the setting then the graphics card is being bottlenecked. In this case you're hitting 100fps so you shouldn't care, just crank up the eye candy even further by going into the driver panels game profile and setting your AA through the roof.

probably will at those resolutions. i got a 7900gtx and I can't go higher than 80fps on americas army 2.6. CPU is an Opteron 144 at 2.4GHz, it's not a really graphic intensive game but I guess I have the same problem as you.

After looking at this card i dont think you have quite guaged how powerfull it is, if you dont get at least over 100 fps in crysis at that res then il eat my hat.

Now as for cs:s, what is said above is right but one thing thats not is, not worrying if you get 100 or whatever if this is the way you are thinking about it then send it back..

One thing you have to remember is tha when hl2 came out the cards they were reccomending were 6800 gts and 6800 ultras and those were the top cards when hl2 came out so yours is like 3/4 gens ahead..

In regard to the game being cpu heavy i can vouch for this, after a reinstall of my pc i would load up cs:s and find it was unplayable, this was due o my overclock being reset so my optey 144 was runnig at 1.8 (inc 7800 gtx,gig of ram) and in the stress test i was geting 125 now for me this wasnt on as on militia it was killing my gameplay same with inferno, so i overclocked my spu to 2.8 and guess what 190 on the stress test, and in militia it was constanlty around 100, and this is me using the same res as you with a 7800 gtx, i say overclock your cpu by 400 mhz or something and see the difference.

If it doesnt make you want to overclock it will make you see why you have the card underperforming by about 130 fps.

For overclocking threads on amd 64 use search as i KNOW there will be about 30 threads on it.

    HTH

thanks for the replies, regarding overclocking all i have done was up teh multiplyer from x12 to x15 and got a 100 mhz boost, dont think that will show performance wise. Should i boost the multiplyer even more ?.
