Dead PC
I was wondering if I could bug you all for some technical help.
I would use the online system, but as the PC wasnt bought from you I thought it would be abit cheeky.
Basically,
I was on the PC playing a game when it suddenly went off. I instantly felt there was some heat coming from the system.
I first thought that the system shut itself down due to i know system have sensors that tell the system to shut down if it gets to hot.
So i left the system alone for about 30 - 40 mins tried turning it on and it didnt work at all so im assuming something is dead.
Anyway I was wondering if any of your tech people could give me an idea of what the problem might be and any other damage that might be caused.
^^The above is a direct copy of what I sent to a SCAN dude and thought id post it here^^
Something Carlh mentioned was that it could be a dead mobo or G Card.
When trying to boot i get nothing, not even a whir from any fans, how ever I did notice that the green light on my mobo still came on. However this was immediately after the computer died, so am not sure but was wondering if the light still being on could be from any residual charge in any of the mobo capacitors.
Anyway any help would be great.

Have you got a spare power supply to try?
-
Normally if the CPU were overheating the mobo would start to beep a warning, tho this is not always the case. It's a case of systematically ruling things out one by one.
PSU, CPU, Mobo etc.
To try the psu without the mobo, refer to this article http://modtown.co.uk/mt/article2.php?id=psumod and see if it will just run the fans. They are prone to overheating & dying every now & then.

I dont have a spare PSU otherwise I would of tried that, that was the first thing that came to mind.
Thanks for your replies, unfortunately I dont have time to try the psu without mobo as im busy all weekend and tomorrow.
Ill sort summet out though thanks.

Points to PSU maybe, if you felt heat the fans may be blocked or NS.
Can you RMA it back to Scan, they are tip top when it comes to Customer service mate.
-
Sounds like what just happened to mine, I was playing a game and left it on,
went upstairs for a bit and came down to my pc being off, tried to turn it on but nothing..
green light on mobo was still on though.
Turned out that the fans in my psu had failed, it over-heated and cooked itself.
Reminded me, still need to rma the thing :p
-
I cant RMA as if didnt buy from SCAN and yup Green Light still on.
I'll have to wait an see...it needs a rebuild anyway so this a good time as any.
I'll keep you posted.

A logical approach is the best mate, try and borrow a good PSU and start by swapping that. Once that is eliminated you can move on to the other hardware.
If it does turn out to be the PSU at fault, for gods sake mate buy a decent branded replacement.
PSU + Cheap = Trouble!

LOL well the PC was built for the family and I had abit of a tight budget, my step dad basically said f**k it to me and just buy a PSU LOL!!
Anyway i gave him the details of a rather nice ThermalTake PSU also ill be buying another Case Fan as it seems one of them is buggered.
I would of tried the logical approach but I didnt feel like disconnecting my gaming rig just to test a PSU problem.
Thanks for the help.

just so the people who posted know, it was a dead PSU issue.
Although when booting i realised that the CPU fan isnt working correctly.
It spins, stops, spins, stops.
So am gonna take it off, clean it and the reseat it and see if that helps, otherwise its another trip to a computer shop for me and my wallet.
