    DVD Drive and related problems

Basically my DVD-RW drive (Asus DVD-RW black), when using it to rip CDs it causes the computer to go all 'stuttery' and so my mouse becomes jerky and my music stutters and becomes broken in sound. It's pretty annoying considering it's a pretty new PC, I've never had the problem before which is unusual. I've tried changing the drive mode from PIO to DMA as I've been told as this might be the problem but it just won't change ):< it keeps on PIO and I don't know how to change it. I've looked in my BIOS as well to see if there's anything on that but I can't find anything there. Please help me sort it out as it's getting annoying when I want to rip a CD and listen to it and work on the PC. The PC specs are as follows:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz
    1Gb Micron DDR2 800Mhz RAM
    Abit AB9-Pro S775 Mobo
    Asus DEW1608P x16 DVDRW

And other stuffs which I doubt have any relevence to it (Graphics, power, HD etc.) and the PC runs Windows XP Home. So if you have any idea please help out

    Thanks,
    Skyrail

Go into Device Manager and delete either the Primary or Secondary IDE Channel (whichever one is stuck on PIO). Then reboot and it will default back to DMA mode and remain that way.

Thanks, I did try that but it defaulted back to PIO mode and I don't know why, I've tried the drive with the jumpers on both CS and Master (doubt that makes a huge difference) and it's on it's on IDE cable (of which I've changed to try another one) It's getting annoying, and trying to search the Asus UK site is a pain when it's as slow as it is at the moment. Do you have any more ideas?

Male sure the IDE cable is an 80 wire type as using an older 40 wire jobby will cause you problems mate.

Just deleting the IDE Channel has always worked for me, however a registry hack can sometimes also be necessary. Details and more things to try here:

I tried all of those and thankyou to you who helped but none of those fixed the problem however after speaking to Chuckskull he helped me sort it out all I had to do was install new drivers, I'm surprised that these companies don't have a built in checker that checks if there is a newer driver available online ah well it's fixed and it seems pretty simple now, but I've learnt from my mistakes thanks again.

Re: DVD Drive and related problems

Major thread revival (I can sense the iminent posting of Batman pics)

But if the OP isn't listening, the first thing you need to do is download the most recent, correct drivers from the manufacturers website should be under support somewhere. Then install them mate.
