Ive got an old system and I cant remember what CPU socket it uses. (939, 754 etc).
I was just wondering how I could tell without tearing the system apart.
Any ideas?

Well if you don't have the manual or box for a motherboard or driver CD.
I'd look at the board it self, if there's no cpu heatsink&fan on it then it should say on the socket or by the shape of the socket you can generally tell.
If it's all hidden by the cpu heatsink&fan, look for the make and model number and then look up the details on the manufactors website. (you'd probably have to go there anyway to get the drivers if you'er going to reuse an old board)
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the model number is generally located between two of the PCI slots.
No PCI..AGP so it'll be on the edge right?
The system is fine just the CPU Fan seems to spin stop, spin stop so am assuming that the fan is buggered.

MSI is printed on the board and heat sink so there's the make.
If you look between the PCI slots (the white ones) you can see " K&N SLI Platinum " that's the model

If the make is not printed on the heat sink it will tend to be on the board but if not searching the model number on the internet will generally let you figure it out.
Yeah i realised after I posted that i had posted wrong just couldnt edit it as I was rushing out.
I know what PCI and PCI - E are just being a noob today.
I found the board model/ make conviniantly placed on a sticker on my onboard VGA adapater :D
