help installing sata2 ahci on gigabyte

I'm trying to install windows 2000 on a Gigabyte 965p ds4 rev 3.3 with a Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 and I followed the instructions in the manual exactly, pluging into purple socket, choosing onboard sata mode = ahci and doing f6 and installing gbb 363 ahci drivers from from floppy. Everything goes fine and I choose to create new partion and format. The CDROM churns away and then it goes from 0% to 2% done and stays there forever (I waited 20 minutes, but nothing). Can you tell me what the problem is?

you sure you dont have to put it in the Yellow sockets?

On my DS3 the purple ones are for Gigabytes Jmicron RAID controller thing, from what you described, (im unsure wether your saying this is your only drive and/or your only OS) it sounds as though you have the one drive..

try it in the yellow ones

I think the yellow ones will work anyway if your setting up raid and may not even need the drivers.. not 100% sure but worth a try..

umm. from what i know, when you partition and format a hd. it takes longer than 20minutes to finish. try leaving it for an hour or two and see if the percentage increases

I did try the yellow sockets but got the same problem (you need to select a different bios option and use different drivers if you do that)
It says in the manual yellow sockets are SATA and purple are GSATAII
It might take hours to format an entire hard, but we are talking it being stuck on about 2% ... it moved from 0% to 2% in 10 seconds then hung at 2% for 20 minutes..

I used the purple socket but not going for a raid config. and had no problem but i'm using XP and I think there was a slightly different route if you are loading 2000 . My h/d is 250g and took ages to format but I would agree that sticking at 2% is odd but I would do what the chaps say and give it a bit more time. If you have a ide drive you could always try that as a slave of your cd rom if you are using an IDE one just to try it . I have got one sata drive atm and am hoping to use a caddy system as I did with my old comp once I get round to it. Sorry that I cannot be more help but this is a new build for me also.

I got it to work finally. It's not able to format with ahci enabled, so I just set it to normal ide and formated, then reenabled ahci again and reran the windows installation
