    Help with e6600

Is it ok to touch the metal part on the top of the cpu? If not how can I clean it? Do you normally have to press down on the cpu to make it fit or should it go in automatically?

Make sure the chip is lined up correctly i.e. gold coloured triangle on the cpu socket and the indented corner of the chip and hold the chip between forefinger and thumb and insert evenly into socket . Pull down load plate and and put lever back in position . I usually put a finger on the ' metal bit' (IHS) and exert slight pressure whilst putting locking lever back position . If you want to clean the top use something like ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL (Available from most Chemists. ) . Most important thing is to make sure that you are using ESP precautions when working with the chip, motherboard or ram . i.e. Rid yourself of 'static electricity' before you start work and during work . ESD bands only cost about a 'fiver' and will save you a lot of grief.
