Chkdisk
Every time i boot up my machine, it says that it needs to run Chkdisk on my E drive, which i use to store my data. When it says press any key to not do it (however it words it), it doesn't respond to my frantic pressing of keys on the keyboard.... Any ideas on what's causing that?
(I don't know what i put on the drive just before it started doing this)

Possibly just incorrect shutdowns of the disk, or suspected errors.
Let it run it, then it should leave you alone.
-
You know you can turn it off

Craig - I let it run all the way through, because there is no way for me to stop it. It has done this the last 7 times i have booted up the computer! It's quite annoying because the boot time is huge now, almost as long as my old PC

do a proper HD test on the drive, I was getting this over and over and over... I ran a drive test, luckily the drive was ok, so I just copied everything off it (it was only an 80gb drive) formatted, and copied everything back, no problem :)

what is a 'proper' HD test? something like memtest is to RAM?
Where could i get it from?
I don't know if this is related, but when i try to hibernate the computer, it says 'Windows has insufficient resouces to complete the API'... :(

Try changing your USB setting in the BIOS? Some kb/mouse have the tendency (on some motherboard) to not activate until you get to Windows GUI.

I had this before. For the drive in question, I did a chkdisk in windows and it fixed it. If its your system partition, try doing a chkdisk /f on it and rebooting as asked. Let the chkdisk complete and see if that gets rid of it.
It probably won't work, but its easy enough to try and you've suffered the full checkdisk loads of times already, so one more won't hurt :D

Rite, chksdisk has no errors found, I downloaded the hard-drive tool from Western Digital's website, and it found no errors on the harddrive, with both the 2 minute test, and the extended test (took an hour).....:s
what could it be?

whatta?
It suddenly stopped doing chkdisk at bootup?? how!?!
The next time i booted after running the thing from WD, it now doesn't run chkdisk at bootup!! also, it hibernates perfectly fine! any ideas on wht happened?
EDIT: oops, my mum came over and messed with the PC to fix it, ill have to ask her how she did it....
