    intel related question

was wondering if there is any software/ setting on an intel chip set that makes the fan only spin when needed, thermostat type thing.

As i have a machine here that the fan only spins every so often, it doesnt overheat is this normal or a faulty fan? As it hasnt overheated but just seems to spin when it wants to..

    many thanks

    (its a gigabyte board/core 2 duo 1.8 ghz version)

if it doesn't overheat and it's not noisy so why bother?

does it start spinning when you use your cpu or even when your computer is idle?

it spins when its idle, and spins more under load, problem is the said customer has been somewhere else and he is telling them that its faulty for doing this and is the reason thier machine is running slow *rolleyes*

EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep), like AMD's Cool N Quiet, I think you have to enable it in bios and install its drivers. You cant use it when you overclock though i think.
