problem on boot up

when i turn on my system it gets to "this computer stopped unexpectedly section" after a resatrt from a windows update.
after 30 seconds its on the "continue normaly" as my g15 doesnt up so i cant change to safe mode, or last good settings. it then restarts the computer and does it again!!!!.
ne ideas?

personally i would run a windows repair from the cd, that will remove all the patch's and reset the registry to allow you to patch again.

sounds like somethings a bit screwed up and would benefit from a repair..

you wont lose any data running a repair, but please remember XP will have its pants round its ankles after a repair and will need patching straight after

ok will give it a go. i can use ne disk even a dell one? even though its a custom pc?? another thing is any way of making the g15 keyboard active during boot up.

Find yourself a ps/2 keyboard and use that to choose the right setting. And whilst you've got it, go into the BIOS and see if there's an option for using a USB keyboard and set it to Enabled. That way you won't have to dig up an old keyboard again.

right got a ps2 keyboard now and same again in all modes safe, last known etc. i wan to repair but can i with a dell operating disc still xp??

Just to clarify, does this mean you can't access the system restore function of safe mode?

i cant access safe mode fullstop. havent tryed a repair disk yet as cant find it!!!
