not a problem, more advice/info on hardware

hi folks, sorry to post a question that could be solved with some research and some google goodness, especially on my first post, but i'm a might bit confused and i figured asking all my q's in 1 place will help solve a lot of my issues

okie i'll start from the top; i used to be really knowledgable in all things geekified but after a stint "away" from computers for over a year i'm so far out of the loop now its just not funny

i'm planning on building my own comp and have been trying to put together a decent system but i'm stumbling on a few blocks

mostly its the CPU issue which has been kicking my arse. i'm after a good AMD CPU, i was looking at getting the FX-74 but scan doesn't say if it supports DDR2 or not..

also, comparing the 6000+ and the FX-62 there doesn't seem to be much difference apart from the price.

so wondering if someone could clear it up for me, which would be the best to go for out of all these ?

i had more questions but i just realised how long winded that 1 is so i'll do some researching before asking my others hehe

    thanks in advance

I'm fairly confident in saying the FX74 is one of the new systems with the 1207 pin setup. Which should mean its DDR2 Memory due to the sheer number of pins.

FX always tended to show up the Server grade machines. Not certain that this is really the same any more.

Im not sure if you realise because you mentioned that you have been out of the loop for a while. However, not long back ago AMD was on top of processors. However, recently Intel has become on top again with their new processors.
The e6600 is probably the most popular COu choice at the moment.

was just coming back to delete my post i did some more research and reading and think i got all covered, and yeah i just learnt intel has retaken the crown

thanks for the help tho guys, amazing

man CPUs really have changed. Although yeah Intel seem on top atm (looking at the E6700 or E6600) i'm still dedicated to AMD..for nostalgia purposes hehe.

now to find a difference between all these bloomin' nforce numbers

off i go *flies, cape flapping*

Intel def kicking ass at the mo with the e6*** series as they are great o/c, as a AMD fan the 6000+ is a great cpu and sometimes beating the conroe,s in some tests.
