esata weird stuttering / performance issue. pleae help

have a Raid 0 500Gb in a Thecus enclosure. Been working fine during long edit.
now, when (eg) opening a video file, it plays back extremely slowly / video stutters like mad. copying to / from the drive is an exercise in molasses

That is during playback of video.

someone said it might be because drive is almost full (around 90-95%) and apparently sata doesn't like anything over 80% but I doubt it's the reason. Moreover, doesn't explain why same drive accesses perfectly normally when using USB2 connection

any ideas? XP SP2, Asus P5B-E plus mobo, 2GB, E6600 etc.

Well performance tails off massively at the edge of the disk but like you i don't think that would be the whole story.

Might be worth posting in the Thecus help here too?.

1) have u tried defragging
2) XP defraging requires 80% free to work properly.

I'd check this 1st & see waht it does 4 u.
