bad crash

i was in the middle of a small sesh of bf2142 and the computer crashed. no biggy i thought rebooted the system. then the system starts to come back up. then it gets to the windows load screen and there are lot of... well lets just say it was pissed up the bar was in the bottom right corner and the colours were all psycodelic. so i took the side off and removed the graphics card thinking it had overheated. now i just went to turn it back on and there is nothing on screen but the fans spin up

1. Overheated (maybe)
2. GPU Memory effed (likely)

those 6800 cards pops like nothing...i had 2 went bad in my life time...tried to reset the bois at all and resit the system ram etc?

not yet im not really in the mood tonight but i have a day off tommorow so i can give it some dedication

looks like it just overheated. ut the question is why? i cleand the heatsink just a few days ago and it has withstood marathon sessions of prey. without a fuss

put an after market heatsink on it and maybe underclock it a bit

You might have knocked the heatsink slightly when cleaning it, breaking the seal between the heatsink and GPU just enough to let it overheat. You probably wouldn't be able to see it just looking at the card. If you don't fancy buying another cooler just yet try removing and reseating the current one with some AS5 or any other thermal gunk you have lying about. Then run something like ATiTool where you can stress the card and watch the temps.

Then again PC parts do get old. You might just have been unlucky and it's gone pop.

yep any movement that makes a gap for an air bubble would mean overheats

some genius at gainward decided it would be a good idea to put a line of big fat caps just after the memory witch means that the nv silencer doesnt fit i will try with a reseat and some new gunk if it happens again. but when i drop out of bf2142 the core temp is something like 102c im guessing that not normal.

102c means, it's the cooler definitely.
