    parallel port

    im trying to connect a device using the parallel port on the back of the pc but when i cannot the device and run the software it gives me an error message failed to initilize port please select system install when logging in or some thing alone those things, any one help?

    Check your BIOS to see if the parrallel port is enabled
    Check Device Manager to see if the port is listed and there are no problems shown against it.
    There are various modes that the Parrallel port can operate in, these are set in BIOS, try one at a time.

    its enabled in bios and no problems in device manager, ive also tried it in all modes but still says the same error

    A similar scenario is that the Palm Pilot software will stop any devices using the serial port if ActiveSync is running and you get a similar message that the port failed to initialise. so have you got any other software that runs a device from your parralell port, you may need to temporarily uninstall or stop the services within Windows, I guess this could include printer drivers if you're using the parrallel port for your printer.

    nope havent use the parallel port before this is the 1st time i use usb for my printer

    Other than the software not being compatible with your operating system I have no other ideas. Have you checked to see if there are any support forums for the software?
