2 x 2007FP OR 1x 2407WFP
I'm getting a new monitor :rockon2:
to go with my new 8800GTS....
Just wondering, do I get two 2007FPs or one 2407WFP?
I can get two Y9923 2007FPs 20" off ebay for £490, or one 2407WFP 24" A04 version with 4 year and no dead pixels for £446.50 from PcBuyIt .... or £399 from ericbunny on ebay...
Now I like the idea of two monitors, but does it have any gaming implications? It's easy enough to configure games to run on just one monitor right?
I've heard the 2407 is great, and I'm not sure I've got the desk real estate to handle two 20"....
Suggestions?

Shoot.
Wrong forum.
MOD - can you move it into hardware for me. Ta.

I've got a single 24" and it's great! I'd vote for that over 2x20"s, but it depends on what you're doing really.
For CAD or coding, I can see that having your IDE full screened with the documentation and/or 2nd view on a 2nd screen would be good.
24" is best for gaming and general use.

Mate the principal in computing is always "one awesome product is better than two substandard products"
-
What you calling substandard lol
It's easy enough to configure the right screen to be the main one.
I think i'd go with the 24" though. I run a 20" wide and 19" wide together and it has its uses but I think i'd prefer one big one.

Damn!!! This is killing me.
I've wanted a dual monitor setup for ages as I can see it being very useful when it comes to doing web dev....plus, these 2007s are no slouches with 1600x1200 res, which compares favourably against my current Iiyama 514 CRT. And there would be TWO of them.
But, Dell is offering me the 2407 with a 5 year warranty for £445 including VAT and delivery, be here by Friday!!! Quite a saving down from £695.60 on the dell site!
So I can have 3200x1200 for work and 1600x1200 for gaming or 1920x1200 for work and gaming.

Another vote here for a single display.
I use dual screens at work and widescreens at home, dual screen just adds a level of complexity and an annoying gap >.<
-
Yeh definetly one single, unless you really would find an improvement to easily working etc
-
i would definitely go for the 2407, especially at that price from dell. you could always get another one - which is what i think im gonna do in a few months :)

Depends on what games you play.
Supreme Commander is just so awesome at 3200x1200, in a sense using dual monitor in SupCom online should be treated as cheating :P
In MS flight simulator you'll be glad to have the wide aspect since you'll want as wide a view as possible.
Another flexibility for having dual 20" is that, IF you have 2 computers, you can have one for gaming, and you can have MSN / website running on the 2nd monitor and have zero impact on your game's performance.
I'm very happy with my 2x20" setup at the moment. The only thing remaining is how you want to position your speakers if you're using 2 monitors :P
Movies aren't terribly bad on dual 20". Consider LOTR, one of the ultra-wide aspect movie, run it over 2 screens and you get about 2700x1200 resolution. What is good about LOTR is, they filmed it as such only a small fraction of scenes you see a face being cut in half, most of the time its landscape scene or the character is on either side of the screen.
About the gap it really depends. If you overlap the 2 monitors together the gap is about 1.5cm wide, which is actually not that bad if your tolerance is low.
P.S. I'm using 2x2001FP

Don't play SupCom, nor do I watch movies on my system.
Just when I thought I'd decided on the 2407, you go and mention having two computers...which I do. The old one is currently broken, but a good spec and something I want to get back up and running....
Dilema, dilema, dilema.
-
And if you run synergy on the two computers, then you can use one KB & Mouse :D

Id say stick to the 24 dell, they look like real nice screens, hopefully sometime in the future il be able to get one, currently im running a 20 inch samsung widescreen, and my old 17 inch unbranded tft, so yes I do have dual moniters but after a couple of weeks the novelty wore off, and I rarely use the 2nd moniter.

Could I throw this into the equation

Almost everything the 2407 is for a lot less.
Ok so you lose a little on resolution but I find it a lot more tempting.
It would also leave you plenty of money to buy a second screen if need be :p
-
Correction, you loose a lot on resolution - especially in coding over a 1600x1200 screen :(
-
Right, that\'s it. Going for the 24". When people start baiting you, you know it\'s time for a decision. Anyway, I can always keep the Iiyama for the other pc for the time being, and if I move some papers off my desk, I could even fit the 24" next to the Iyama and run them both in dual mode, although the dell would have to run at non widescreen res....
And then later I could get another 2407, as suggested by sp3n....once my kidney grows back and I\'m able to sell it again...
