    Mic input lost

    Hey,

I seem to have lost my mic input, when I unmute the mic everything seems dead, if I make a LOT of noise in the room and listen carefully I can hear it like its a long long way away and very quiet. I have checked in the windows sound and audio control panel and it is set to the correct sound input, I have also made sure the 'mic in' port isnt in use as a 5.1 port. Its also selected as the input source under the advanced settings.

At first I thought that it might be a hardware problem but today I borrowed a new sound card (Genius Soundmaker value 5.1) and exactly the same happens with this.

    Specs:
Athlon XP mobile 2500+ (clocked at 2.3MHz and running cool and stable)
    Abit NF7-S v1 (nForce 2 board)
    2x512MB Corsair XMS RAM
    Club 3D NVidia 6600GT

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this without reinstalling windows?

Is the mic OK? Is it plugged into the mic input (not line).
