pc wont turn on wit keyboard in

pc hangs before it loads o/s and stays there, wont display anything other than a black screen with keyboard plugged in. 2 short post beeps whether keyboard plugged in or not.

tried another keyboard, and both keyboards work in other pc's
my mouse is usb so it MAY also not work with ps/2 mouse

only thing thats changed was cmos jumper pin broke so i put a new jumper on. i reset the bios, still the same problem

if i leave keyboard plugged in then i can turn caps etc on/off, but it wont boot o/s, and if i plug in keyboard while in vista it doesn't recognise it

i'm using an on-screen keyboard so forgive me for my short post

my pc crashed, when i rebooted i could select "safe mode" etc with keyboard, yet when booting to windows keyboard stops working, leaving the num-lock on constant.

is it a usb keyboard ? have you put acpi on you bios , if its on disabl;e it ,and if its disable enable it.

try to use a PS2 port keyboard if its a USB

its a PS2 port keyboard, i cant get into the bios as the keyboard isnt working

i havent got a usb keyboard to test it with

kinda strange i have a PS/2,

on a long shot that mouse, did it come with a PS/2 --> USB adapter? if so will the keyboard fit into it and therefore use as a usb keyboard?

erm I'm confused........if you can get into safe mode in windows you can get into the bios, as it's well before loading windows.

good, you're just as confused as i am.
i press delete, (key to get into my bios), as much as i like and it wont let me in.

i haven't been in safe mode, just on the screen that says "start normally, safe mode, etc" *in* which the keyboard was working. however when i selected start normally my k/b stops working that second

erm so the keyboard works on another computer but on yours only the arrow selection key is working at one point?..........facinating

try reseting the BIOS as it my be a config error

I had a bad overclock that caused a similar error.... computer would boot from keyboard stroke (as set in BIOS), but would not register keyboard even when trying to press del key to get into BIOS. Clearing CMOS solved it... so you broke a pin off? How have you repaired it again?

I had a similar oddity over the wekend.

I pugged my new USB mouse and keyboard in and then when they were working I unplugged the PS2 keyboard and USB>PS2 mouse leaving just the USB devices attached. The PC then wouldn't power off. The monitor lost it's signal so the gfx obviously shut down but the fans, front fan control panel and the system power led stayed on. Plugging the USB>PS2 mouse back in solved it but I haven't tried plugging my new USB mouse into the USB>PS2 adaptor as I wasn't sure the mouse firmware would work.

Interestingly to get to BIOS on the USB keboard I have to hit delete several times then backspace once immediately after. Neither backspace nor the del key will do it seperately.

If you actually get into the BIOS, you would have to change the input method of the device so that it is capable of working.

under something like integrated perhipherals, try changing keyboard from usb to ps/2 or vice versa

Another long shot, just wondering could your bios require an alternate button (such as the increasingly popular F2 key amongst boards such as certain abit products) to delete to be pressed?

I bought a USB keyboard and it still does the same, but atleast now I can plug in the keyboard after start-up so it works kinda. I can't be arsed to fix it if I have a temp fix, but thanks everyone for your replys.
