Dell E520 Core 2 Duo System

After becoming fedup of building systems all the time, I got a cheap E520 Dell,

Was considering to change the CPU from the 4300 to the 6600...

Is there any point in this?

(overclocking is not possible in Dells)

My immediate answer would be a yes if youre willing to buy it. you will probaly notice a very big jump in speeds including the desktop and general use.

If its worth doing I would change the CPU, its beacause the Dell system cost so little I cant be assed to do a build, If I build the cost always spirals out of control...!

Well I would say no, only because the E4300 is begging to be overclocked and it's so easy....so if both CPU's were running at say 2.8ghz would there be much difference using applications and playing games, out today.

Can the the dell motherboard support 1066mhz FSB as the E4300 only runs 800mhz..

or are you speculating what to buy?

Im assuming it can, as when I ordered it did give the option to up to the E6600 so im assuming they use the same board,

just a pain that NOONE knows how to O/CLOCK a dell.

You can overclock e4300's by breaking a certain pin.

They go to 2.4GHz automatically when you do this but you have make sure that the chip will run 2.4 at stock volts.

Don't assume you can run an e6600 dell could use a totally different board for the two cpu's to stop you doing exactly what you're trying to do.

This sounds very interesting and im very tempted to do this......

can you give some more detail on this... will I have to scrap the stock cooling i assume?

Will it be stable, will this work on any pc/mainboard?

i'd suggest asking someone with a compatible board to let you try and overclock it to 2.4 at all its stock settings to give you a good idea. This doesn't mean to say that it will be stable in the dell.

Cost you £70 to find out

I'd probably scrap stock cooling for it..although I don't know what dell use..

You would have to search around for the thread on it..it's popped up on here though.
