    driver issues with nvidia

ok i hate my f-ing vid card
rebooted comp and the monitor goes blank

remove drivers, go to safe mode, screen is fine
install drivers, back to monitor not working going blank again

install drivers + switch DVI port, get page_fault_in_non_paged_area error

looked around the inet and seems a ****LOAD of ppl have this problem, but no solutions

one solution was to turn off write combining (did nowt)

does ANYONE know how to fix this problem ? it comes up every few months and i just end up formatting, either that or roll back to old drivers

    card is 6800GT

    tried many a driver

here's what i've tried so far:

93.71 (drivers which were installed when problem happened randomly)
uninstalled them, put in 94.24, same problem
tried the drivers which came with the card
    and also tried 81.95

    all causing the same problem

also, if i move the monitor connection from 1 to the other between reboots of driver updates, i get a BSOD with page_fault_in_non_paged_area

    full spec is

    Abit KN8-SLI
    2x512 corsair XMS DDR
    XFX geforce 6800GT
    WD 250gig SATAII HD

it started after the comp was being really sluggish..extreme amounts of HD axs for the smallest of tasks, so i rebooted and then it started

That sound is pretty normal TBH.

A few more questions - have you installed the nVidia motherboard drivers (6.86 from the nVidia website)? Do you have the Shadow card installed in the lower PCI-E slot in your motherboard? Have you plugged the additional molex into the motherboard at the bottom?

Finally, what PSU are you using?

the mobo hasn't changed; this problem comes up randomly after absolutely no hardware change. but yeah shadow card is in, motherboard is powered fine

PSU is tagan 640watt, not sure on model number, its got a blue light in it (ha don't i sound like a newb)

i've been checking around the inet and seems a few ppl have this prob from time to time yet no solution, its really strange

running without drivers atm, if i format and resinstall windows it'd be fine again but really don't wanna do that =)

o and yeah using 6.86 nforce drivers

It's certainly a strange one... I've been running an Abit KN8-SLI with a 7900GT for over a year now without issue.

I'd normally associate blue screens with bad RAM, but I have no idea why loading the VGA driver is causing it. Might be worth running a couple of passes of memtest just to be on the safe side:

naw mate really has nothing to do with memory

    here's full story

every few months comp will go really sluggish, reading off the HD like a mofo. i'll reboot it and when it comes back on, monitor won't work

boot into safe mode and remove drivers and..with a lil bit of voodoo magic and a combination of drivers, i'll manage to get the display back, but 99.999999% of the time any installation of drivers causes the monitor to go off
its really really stupid, never happened with any other HW config until i got this vid card
