Shuttle—dead?
Hi,
I have an old Shuttle SN45G V2 that's been more or less sitting around for the past year or so.
I tried to boot the thing up today, but it does the characteristic "sit-there-and-wail-away-with-both-LEDs-shining-but-don't-post" thing.
Is there any reason why it might be doing this?
Before people start suggesting it's to do with the BIOS settings, I don't think it is—I've cleared the BIOS settings numerous times and have removed the CMOS battery for up to an hour at times before trying it again, but nothing.
I've also tried putting another CMOS battery in (wasn't a new one, but I'm pretty sure it was OK), to no avail.
It seemed fine last time I booted it up, so I doubt it's got anything to do with components being broken.
:surrender:

Do the following, take out the CPU and re-sit it along with the memory. Then disconnect all non essential components such as floppy and CD drives.
Does it boot now? If not, you might be looking at a motherboard issue.

It's not booting. :-(
The motherboard LED isn't flashing or anything though, it's just a solid light—and there are no odd beeps or anything.
It seemed to be alright when I left it, so I can't think where the mobo could have broken.

Have you knocked any of the small little components on the MB itself.
It very much sounds to me that the MB is the problem. Have you got another one lying around that you could try your RAM and CPU with to rule them out?

I had exactly the same with my sb95v2.
Fine one day, then just powers up with fans @ 100% and no POST.
Went back to shuttle for repair, come back working. Within a month it did the same again. Its been in the wardrobe ever since.
