Inserting images. ImageShack and similar services ... ?

Occasionally I feel as I need to attach an image to a post.
I think I know how to do it - effectively one inserts a link to the image hosted somewhere on a server.
Well, the idea is simple but I have never done it.
Personally I do not run a server myself so, I guess, I need to find one somewhere where I could upload images either free of charge or at some cost.
Now the question is what service to use.

The first solution that comes to my mind are the online printers as they host images prior to processing.
Well, the space they offer is limited and I would not like to mix my photos-to-be-processed with images-to-be-posted.
I heard about ImageShack but I wonder if you could :
    - comment on their service
    - recommend any alternative services

    Your feedback will be appreciated.

imageshack is the best out there, you dont have to register and its unlimited hosting that the images actually stay hosted for a very long time.

    go to www.imageshack.us

click browse and then select an image file from you computer that is supported file type and click upload. then after its finished you will be redirected to a page full of links. copy or cut the very bottom one called DIRECT LINK and then post it on any forum by putting image tags around the link when you paste it by typing [img]link[/img].

    hope that helps

I sometimes find imageshack doesn't want to load or finish my uploads when it's in the peak internet usage times.

Therefore if you have a gmail email account you can upload pictures to your picasaweb space which you can find Here and then link to using the same principles as the post above

    Thanks.
I will try that if ImageShack fails ...
I tried IS a couple of minutes ago and it all worked !
I got the picture linked to one of my other forum profiles and it shows up.
    Excellent.

If images on IS get deleted then, for keeping pics permanently, the gmail / picasaweb might be a better solution, I suppose.

good news i checked the website and on the FAQ it says that the freely hosted images will not be deleted from their hosting servers unless the image files violate their Terms of Service

I use uploadit.org also, have done for years (when i cant be arsed to upload them to my webspaces) & never had a prob. A bit less functionality than say photobucket, but not a prob tbh.
