You realise though, that when you are already overclocked, and you set your ram to 800mhz, then you raise the fsb even more, that the ram speed raises as well? And as you are running the ram at fairly tight timings, it may not like going that fast.

What timings and voltages are stock for your ram?

That 4:5 ratio causes problems on a few boards as well, so as Clunk says, it's best to leave it at 1:1 while you get everything else sorted.

I understand precisely what you gentlemen are saying. I did in fact follow Clunks advice exactly. Memory was only adjusted after I achieved the highest FSB with CPU voltage = AUTO without failing Orthos blend test. I then went back last night and reestablished all the original settings from Clunks guide. Mem was 640 and 5-5-5-15 @ 2.2 which is manufacturers setting. Anything beyond FSB=3.1 failed Orthos in minutes. The only way for me to reach 3.2 was to up the CPU voltage to 1.475. Only then did I tune in the memory settings. I also ran just the FFTs test to help rule out the memory and it did just that because the test failed at the minimum memory settings also. Looks like I do have sort of a dud for a CPU.
At this setting my temps were 27 idle and 54 peek, mostly 52-53.

If you don't see anything else obviously wrong in my settings, then maybe it is like you said and this CPU just doesn't offer me the range I had hoped for. I'm not going to send it back because it does work and that wouldn't be right. I wish to thank you all so much for your time in trying to assist me.

    God Bless,

The 52C-53C mentioned above is only during ORTHO testing. I did some Video rendering last night and temps only reached mid 40s.

Temps sound fine. The only other thing I could suggest would be to test the RAM using memtest. Sometimes it can be slightly defective, enough to cause Orthos to fail, but no system crashes during everyday use. Don't know if a BIOS update will help.... Clunk has that same board and is achieving great overclocks, so perhaps you should ask him which BIOS version he's using. Otherwise it looks like you've just been unlucky and got a poor chip. 3.2 isn't too shabby though really

Thanks for your inputs GSTe. I do have BIOS 311 (official release) which is what Clunk is using. I will run the memory test tonight. I was wondering, could part of my problem be that I'm using all four mem slots? I haven't tried just two slots yet? Just another thought!

    Ummm, yes. Didnt see that.

Try with just 2 of the sticks in the black slots, you should find that you can go higher

Ah 4 slots, Didn't notice that either.... that's most likely the culprit

So let me ask this. Hypothetical this is. If I find I can get to say 3.5 - 3.6 with two GB mem. What would be better for me overall for Video processing. To go with more mem and lower clock speed or less mem and higher clock speed? This is for Video processing not gaming.

Only way to find out is to try it

You may still find that the CPU was the limiting factor in your overclock.

Currently I'm using Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate. I got this one because I wanted Vista compatible. It has some bugs I found but I also found work arounds. Burned first DVD with it last night. Still alot to learn since this is my first experience with Pinnacle.

Adobe may be down the road. Just starting out down this new road.

I have to confess I also play one game, COD2 on UST server which is a sniper server only.

Ah right.... thought if your CPU wouldn't go any higher then a quad core might help when the prices drop in July, but wouldn't be any advantage for that particular program.

Never played COD2, but am an avid BF2 fan. Might give it a look... must be good if it's the only game you play.

    Well here are my results.

With two sticks (black) no difference at all.
    Same for yellow.

Went back to stock settings on memory, but as soon as I lowered the CPU voltage to below 1.475, Orthos would fail FFTs test within five minutes.

Since I want to do video and more memory is better, I will resign myself to stay @ 3.2 with CPU voltage @ 1.475. Memory is 4-4-4-10 and I can run any ORTHOs without fail.

    I surrender,

I'll take it, and since I have an air conditioner (if needed) pointed right at the PC, temps can be managed at 54C max during Orthos in the dead of summer.

During video rendering temps hover around 46C-48C, so I guess that is it for me.

    GSTe,

I play COD2 on United_Sniper_Team.com server because it is the most mature server I have found. These guys won't tolerate bad language or immature behavior. It makes for a pleasant gaming experience. COD2 takes real patience for sniping. Plus I suck at run and gun. LOL Play has been slow because of summer, but this fall it will be a very fun place to be. They do have BF2 server. Also they run a teamspeak server adding to the experience with live conversation.

    Look for me, same name.
