Vista Internet Problem
Hi Guys,
I recently purchased a Dell PC with Windows Vista Home Ultimate edition and apart from a few quirks here and there I am relatively pleased. However, in the last few days it has been giving me grief when connecting to the internet.
I am able to connect to MSN (sometimes) but most of the time i am able to ping google from the command line but nothing else! When i open Firefox or IE, it just tries to load and then says Page Not Found. To try and narrow the problem down i tried connecting with my Windows XP Laptop and it does so without a bother. So im thinking that there is a problem with the Security or Firewall on Vista... can anyone advise?
I have a Linksys WRT54GS connected to Virgin/NTL if that helps at all, but as i say, i am able to connect with windows XP.
Cheers

I presume you've got a wireless network adapter? I'm using a netgear router/adapter and its fine and quick to pick up in xp but takes avariable amount of time to sort itself out in vista, and occaisionally needs 'encouragement'. Coudl yours be like this? Driver issues?

i had immense trouble trying to find a vista x64 compatable wireless adapter that actually worked with no problems. in the end raven suggested this from scan and i have had no problems whatsoever since. its been running for about 2 weeks with great connection and no drop outs.
It may be the adapter but im not 100% sure..

Hi, thanks for the replies but i am connecting via ethernet to the dekstop machine. Ironically when i connect my laptop wirelessly then it works!
That was the case until today where now i cant get anything via HTTP. I am able to call up the DOS prompt and ping a few things but what use is that to me? Im currently on the phone now to Virgin Broadband and they already said they are experiencing a high number of callers - which is already a bad sign!
