    Broadband speed drop

    Hey all

I have 2 seperate internet connections on 2 seperate wireless routers.. yesterday I was getting 2mb speeds from my 2mb line and 7.5mb speeds on my 8mb line, since this morning, I've only been able to clock a max of 1.4-1.5mb max downloads, though my upload rates have not differed.

Not sure what it could be, I'm testing these via laptop over wireless as that's where the problem seems to be coming from.. uninstalled and reinstalled wireless card, rebooted routers but nothing, Windows Wireless Configuration indicates that I'm hooked up to the router at 11mbps.

Tried scanning for adware/spyware with no results, really stuck as to what could make it drop since last night.

Try and prove what your speeds are without using the wireless . i.e. use an ethernet connection and see if your speeds are ok. Plus check and see if anyone else is 'sharing your bb, i.e. are you carrying passengers. There are many things that can interfere with a BB signal . Have you had any 'lightning storms ' etc , etc ,.

Can't really test ethernet speeds as I don't have an ethernet port on the laptop, though I did test the 2mb line via ethernet on a different pc which came back as 2mb.

Up till late last night and this morning it was fine, speeds were correct.. now it's as though I'm being capped over wireless to 1.5mb/s through both 8mb and 2mb routers.

Spyware and Virus scanned with no results.

I did download a load of cr#p last night trying to unlock my brothers cell phone though.. but I'm pretty sure I erased all trace of it, cleared all temp folders and cleaned the registry.

    Edit:
Doesn't seem to be any programs taking bandwidth through the laptop.

Well , if you don't have an ethernet port then use a USB port on your lappie.

Both my routers can only be connected via ethernet or wireless.

Well maybe you would be better to have a word with your service provider. Sometimes when your downloading things especially over 'sharing thingies , torrents etc your bb can get 'throttled' . It should go back to normal but for some reason i have heard , it can 'stick' --Happened to my m8 last week after he 'downloaded a film.

Still can't figure it, it's fine via ethernet on my other pc.. just all of a sudden it's gone down on this laptop.

Don't forget to check out your CPU usage too. Depending on the download protocol some of them can require quite a bit of juice.

Using speedtest.net, same one I've always used. Think I may just format, there's not a whole lot on here that I need to backup anyhow.
