new mobo old hard drives non sata

hi guys
i have 2 old non sata hard drives that i want to keep but i want to upgrade my mobo mem cpu and graphics.
can i still get my hard drives to work and will i need special connectors to do this
thinking of p35 chip mobo and rad 1950xt graphics
any advise appreciated

Most p35 mboards still have an IDE connector that will allow you to attach 2 devices.

Either buy a mobo that has a PATA connector as well as SATA connectors and use them that way, or buy external enclosures (ypu can get them from about £10 from Scan - I have used the Sumvision ones) and install them in those and access the data via USB.

You could do it that way, but it would end up cheaper just to buy a new DVD drive, they're under £20.

Just read the tech specs:
Internal I/O Connectors

1. 8 Serial ATA 3Gb/s connectors
2. 1 UDMA ATA 133/100/66/33 connector
3. 1 FDD connector
4. 1 IEEE 1394 connectors
5. 4 USB 2.0/1.1 connectors (supports 8 ports)
6. 1 audio pin header (supports 8-Channel)
7. 1 S/PDIF In pin header

Plug the 2 HDs into the ATA connector on the board, and buy a new SATA DVD writer.

Or you could sell the old ATA drives and replace them with SATA, more expensive obviously but an option nevertheless. There is yet another option and that is to buy a PCI plug in IDE card and then run the DVD drives from that.

And remember, you will still have the mobo connection as well, combined this would allow you to use upto 6 ide/pata devices.
