Unknown Virus...Obfustat.VG (AVG)
Hey,
got an interesting problem here, today AVG popped up a 'Virus Found' message, telling me that SupCom.exe contained the 'Obfustat.VG' virus/trojan/worm/whatever..so naturally I moved it to the vault and healed it..and it now seems fine.
The interesting part is that I can find *no* information on what Obfustat.VG actually is. Googling etc gives me other forum posts of people asking what it is,m all of which isn't much use.
It seems like its a false positive from what i've been reading, and if so then theres no real problem..but i'd still like to know what the darn thing is/was supposed to be :)
Anyone come accross it before?

Re: Unknown Virus...Obfustat.VG (AVG)
Obfustat is NOT the result of a positive malware but is a detection by the Heuristic scan.
Crack programs, game trainers, NO-CD-DVD patch, and any executable which is programmed with certain code will be detected as Obfustat.
I am saying it again: Obfustat is NOT a virus nor malware, it's just a flase positive which you could ignore.... I say "could" because AVG will move the file to the vault.
There are many things you can do to fix this problem:
1. Contact AVG support and send them the file falsely detected: they will remove the detection with the next update.
2. Update often AVG so that cases already reported will be fixed.
3. In case you are really annoyed, disable Heuristic scan both from Resident Shield and Test center, if you need information about how to do this you can ask AVG or I can post the instructions... just let me know.
Remember: better 100 files falsely detected as virus that one virus not detected!
Anyway AVG support is very kind and competent and will assist you with your problem, the real key to the solution is support+updates.
Marco.
Re: Unknown Virus...Obfustat.VG (AVG)
is obfustat.SRO also a false detection???
i also use AVG
and i use xp home edition
Re: Unknown Virus...Obfustat.VG (AVG)
All Obfustat are false detection, but I am surprised you still get it, by now AVG should have fixed them all... when did you last update your anti-virus? I didn't get any more Obfustat for months
If you have any problem just contact support using the option "Information" > "Support by email", after you explain your problem AVG will ask you to send them the files and they will fix any false detection.
There are other false detection you could get from AVG such as BackDoor.Hupigon2.JQP or generic5.JNF and others... just report them to support they will fix it in the next update.
