    ASRock Wont Post

    Hi,

I am having a bizzare problem....

I recently built a computer for my girlfriend the specs are

    ASrock AliveNF6G-DVI
    1GB Corsair Value DDRII
    AM2 3800+
    Western Digital Sata HDD

The system refuses to post the majority of the time, the fans spin and yet there is no display. Sometimes it will post and even get into windows but then freezes and refuses to output a display

I have tried it in single and dual channel mode and tried each piece of ram individually, I have removed all non essential components and the system still wont post.

    Any Ideas anyone?

    PSU?

Checked every thing is connected/seated correctly?
    Tried bare minimum set up?
Tried building the pc out of the case?

I dont think its the PSU as the fans spin up and everything seems to be fine in terms of power.

I checked the seating of everything and have reseated everything

The bare minimum produces the same results

Since the post I have built it out of the case and same thing

The computer comes on yet there is no display output and its deffinetely not the monitor

One strange thing I have noticed is when the CD drives are connected they just make a clicking noise as though they are trying to power up, the light on the front of them flashes intermittently as well

If its intermittenet then you have a connection problem or its grounding itself.

Reassemble it outside if the case and i bet you a fiver it works

Seems you owe me a fiver already tried assembling it outside of the case on a non conductiing surface i.e a piece of cardboard. I dont think it is a connection problem either as I have dismantled it and re assembled it so many time I have lost count. I originally though along same lines as you

Tried this as well managed to get into the bios and load default settings and checked all setting including the ram to no avail

I just booted it up then as I tried to give it another go and it was working ok exept when it got into windows then it crashed, I then plugged a DVD drive in and again the thing wont post, no display but all the fans spinning. Also within 30 seconds of switching the thing on the heatsink on the chipset becomes incredibly hot

sounds like either the auto overclock (not sure about asrock boards never used them) or a bad board, did you load your base settings for your cpu too, the only worrying thing is when you plug in the dvd andd it wont post. i'd say get an rma on the board

if you still wanna try, flash the bios to a more stable one. it helps sometimes

I turned the auto overclock off and tried it that way too. I have loaded the base settings for the CPU. We live close to scan so I think I will pop up there at the weekend.
