P5k Deluxe Powers on - then straight off
I finally recieved a P5K deluxe and Q6600.
I set it up and powered on - nothing.
I re-checked all the connections, and it powered on - all lit up then powers off one second later.
the obvious cause is a short.
I've put it on a cardboard box and powered it on with no devices other than ram / power / power switch / cpu
Powers on - lights up, fan spins, powers off in under a second, almost as if its shorting.
I did see a simlar thread on this a few days ago but cannot find it now.
I've not come across thei behaviour before.
Re: P5k Deluxe Powers on - then straight off
Did you plug the 12v 8pin lead in to the motherboard ? :)
A short is possible as well, but not likely if you have built it up on cardboard.
It could be a few things, but some things to test would be;
1 stick of RAM - try all the RAM individually in all the slots. This is just a precaution.
Duff/Incompatible PSU - If the board itself is ok, then this would be the prime suspect. Try another if possible.
Check nothing small and conductive has fallen onto the board and become lodged - again, its worth a try.
Check that your graphics card is seated properly, and that the power cable is plugged into the card if there is one - this can cause the behaviour that your are reporting.
Re: P5k Deluxe Powers on - then straight off
Do you have a 3 pin fan attached to the motherboard CPU header?
Some systems won't come on if they think there isnt a fan on the HSF (you can disable it in the BIOS later though)
Re: P5k Deluxe Powers on - then straight off
clunk is the winner.
When I re-cabled it to check why it wasn't powering on in the first place I left off the little 4 pin additional power lead (forget the name of it). I also did this when I removed the board from the chassis to test on a box.
Fault is user error.
Clunk eeef you geeve me yourrr baank account noomber I will transfeeeere soome foonds directly to say thank youuu ;)

That's an easy one to do - along with forgetting to plug in the graphics card power (interesting my 8600GTS ran up fine without it plugged in once..)

My 7800 does too :)
Just lets you know when you try to play a game.
Re: P5k Deluxe Powers on - then straight off
is anyone else seeing the information on dangel's profile side bar (the part to the left of the post with post counts on) as a different size to everyone elses?
Re: P5k Deluxe Powers on - then straight off
Not here, looks the same as every other in the thread, how odd that you (I assume, since you asked) are.
Re: P5k Deluxe Powers on - then straight off
Have I been upgraded then? :)
Re: P5k Deluxe Powers on - then straight off

I've forgot to plug in the power connector for the graphics before, which is also easy to do :embarrassed:
